Operation Welcome Bag

Official Dosomething.org Project

The Problem

In my community, everyday women are battered by their boyfriends or husbands. Many times these women have no where to go. An organization in my community that supports these women in times of need is called Turning Point. This is a vital need for a local city of Allentown. Many times, women leave their homes in the middle of the night with very little possessions such as clothes, toiletries and many other valuables. Often, these women have children and these children may suffer the most. When I saw that this was happening in my community, I decided to help. For the reason of the women arriving in the middle of the night or times of need, I decided to put together the program Operation Welcome Bag. These bags will contain toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, deodorant, mouthwash, disposable razors, soap, and washcloths. There will also be a bag for the children. These bags are separated into 4 different groups for boys and girls. Ages infant, 2-4, 6-9, and 10-14. These bags will consist of toiletries, toys, puzzles, coloring books, crayons, diapers, bottles, baby cups, toy cars, dolls, and stuffed animals according to the age level and gender. This project could be an amazing project considering Turning Point receives up to 15 families in one night. That means over 100 bags would only supply the organization for a week. This is an extremely important need in my community and with your help women can be saved and children can live a normal childhood.
