11th Annual Latina Youth Leadership Conference

The Problem

Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. and the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley have worked in a join effort to provide young Latinas of Weld County an annual event where they are provided the opportunity to interact with other successful Latinas of all ages and are encouraged to look within themselves to recognize their own pride and confidence as young women upon entering high school. The Latina Youth Leadership Conference provides a safe, fun and educational enviroment in which young Latina leaders can learn and grow about themselves and their potential to succeed in the face of challange. Through workshops, we inform them about leadership skills, higher education,self-esteem empowerment, culture and healthy relatiopnships. Since 1998, Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. and the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center have reached over 2200 young women from and around the Weld County area. Every year there are about 250-300 girls that come to this conference. As the years go by, more and more girls attend. This conference has encouraged many young Latinas to continue with their education, pursue a career and have a healthy lifestyle.
