My project is an Awareness walk. Its for the Awareness of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and to help raise money for my friend Marsha Tyszler. She and I both suffer from this extremely painful and sometimes rare condition. RSD is a neurological condition that causes extreme pain from even the simplest injures like a sprain up to major surgery. Marsha is confined to a wheelchair only being able to walk a few steps with canadian crutches or a brace because of her left leg is entirly affected. She had a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted a few years ago, but she realized earlier this year her pain was worse. She saw a RSD specialist in Philedelphia and he ran some tests. The conclusion was that the RSD now was in her heart and in her skin even though she wasn't having pain there yet. The Dr. said it would only be a matter of time though. So Marsha needs a treatment that is expensive and not FDA approved. She needs to get a Ketamine Coma treatment were she will be put into a coma and hopefully the neurotransmitters in the brain will reset themselves. Well she needs to raise about $20,000 for the treatment and I wanted to help.
We are still in the planning stages for the walk. My High School Key Club is helping me plan this. A part of the procedes will go to a orginization that is close to my heart. They have helped my parents and I throughout my diagnosis and many other RSDers diagnosises. This orginization is Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrom Association. The other monies would go to Marsha's treatment fund.
I am really hoping this teaches my school what RSD is.
