- More than 33,000 people die by suicide every year in the U.S.
- Every 18 minutes, someone in the U.S. dies by suicide - that’s around 92 suicides every day.
- Suicides ranks third as the cause of death among 15-24 year olds in America.
- Firearms are the most commonly used method of completing suicides.
- Males complete suicide at a rate four times that of females.
- Females however attempt suicide three times more than males.
- Caucasians have higher rates of completed suicides (12.4 per 100,000) than African Americans (4.9 per 100,000).
- For every completed suicide by a young person, it is estimated that 100 to 200 attempts are made.
- Suicides rates traditionally increase during times of economic crises.
